Stirchley Write Club
Where good men write and share to stay connected and uplifted.
The writing group for non-writers,
the men's group for non-wankers
Stirchley Write Club is a monthly meetup for men to avoid talking about their feelings by doing something else – in this case, writing.
Each month we'll have a new starter word, and all you have to do is write whatever that word sparks in you, and bring it along to our session in Stirchley.
We'll also have an optional challenge to help keep things interesting – like avoiding the letter S or writing in the style of a one-star Amazon review.
The piece you write will give us a jumping-off point to have a chat – not about your work, but about anything it made us think or feel.
You can write something personal or fantastical, silly or serious. You can write a tweet-length story or a chapter of a memoir. And most importantly, you do not have to be a "writer".
-
Who can join?
Stirchley Write Club is open to any adult who identifies as a man.
-
What kind of stuff can I write?
You could write a standup routine, a song, a poem, a blog post, an email, or a text. It's up to you.
-
Do I have to perform in front of people?
Not if you don't want to. We want to hear what you've written, but if you'd rather not read it aloud, you can ask someone else to. This is less about performing and more about listening.
Who and what Stirchley Write Club is not for
This is a safe space for anyone who identifies as a man. If that language bothers you, Write Club is probably not for you right now... but we'd love to have you when you're ready.
But guys don't often have spaces where they can talk about their feelings, as society teaches us we're supposed to bottle them up, push them down, or kick a football.
This isn't an anti-woman or anti-trans space, nor is it restricted by sexual preference.
